‘Amy’ Now No. 2 Docu Ever In UK
The Amy Winehouse story Amy has become the second-highest-grossing documentary of all time in the UK. Released by Altitude Film Distribution, it recently was crowned the top-grossing British documentary ever. The UK box office is now £3.44M ($5.39M). Asif Kapadia’s look at the late Grammy winner previously had the biggest opening weekend for a British documentary and has continued to perform strongly. Its seventh weekend of release added more than £70K ($110K). With the recent grosses, Amy has overtaken March Of The Penguins and now sits behind only Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which is the highest-grossing nonconcert documentary at the UK box office on £6.5M ($10.2M). Fahrenheit won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2004, and Amy debuted at the same festival this year to much critical acclaim.
